🗞️ Inside WordPress News

This past week’s been a productive one for me. I finally got around to processing the first three podcasts I’ve recorded for my Within WordPress podcast. And I would like to highlight the first three episodes for you here today:

  • Jonny Harris was so kind to be my very first guest and guinea pig.  We talked about  his role as part of the WordPress Core Performance team. We discussed a lot of interesting bits about what goes into that and what’s ahead of us for WordPress.

My second podcast was with Till Krüss.

  • Till is the creator of the wonderful Object Cache Pro plugin for Redis. He’s also a member of the same WordPress Core Performance team as Jonny.  Till and I discuss the internals  of what goes into that side of the caching, how it works, and what problems it solves.

Lastly, I talked to Matt Medeiros

  • Matt,  for a second there , was worried his talk had died on the cutting room floor, but that couldn’t be further from the truth 😆. Matt and I  had a very engaging conversation  about the state of the WordPress Media landscape. And how difficult it has become as a single player in this field. And the challenges we see ahead.

A few more short WordPress news bits, for good measure:

🚀 Performance

  • Servebolt published an in-depth article on what the performance improvements of WordPress 6.2 exactly are. Including measurements.  Good read .
  • Did you know there’s such a thing as Performance golden Rule? Well, if you didn’t, now’s a good time to catch up to it as  there’s a revisited version .
  • What’s the carbon footprint of the images on your website?  Measure it here .

🔆 Inside WordPress Highlight

💡 Interesting Finds

  • ChatGPT and Charts having a baby. Yes, that would be called  ChartGPT .
  • Steve Burge  shared an interesting thing  about being able to share error logs with your developers in a easy way. Coming soon for Logtivity.

What I am reading

Haven’t done much reading this week, so I’m wrapping up  Do Hard Things: Why We Get Resilience Wrong and the Surprising Science of Real Toughness . It has moved onto the Must Read section for me.

🎁 Bonus

I asked the twitters what their most underrated WordPress tool, service, plugin, whatever was, and the responses were pure gold. Some known solutions, but lots and lots of cool new things were mentioned.  Check them out .

That’s it for this week’s edition of Inside WordPress. Thanks for reading!

Best, Remkus
