Improve Your A11Y Skills + A WordPress Periodic Table #072

I don’t know about you, but this week felt like the shortest week ever. I distinctly remember waking up on Monday, blinked twice, and now we’re Friday? I mean…

I did manage to publish a new edition of my  Within WordPress podcast with Juliette Reinders Folmer , and I recorded three more episodes as well. Experimented with  a video format of this newsletter  as well. Let me know what you think on any of these!

🗞️ Inside WordPress News

Something super cool I came across this week and want to highlight first is this:

  • We all know our WordPress solutions should be accessible (A11Y for short) to all, right? And I’m betting most of you know how to do the basic stuff in your code, with your images, etc. But a deep understanding is lacking for most of us. Myself included. The  A11Y Collective  is here to help you solve your lack of knowledge. They offer an e-learning platform that offers you  all kinds of courses  to help bridge that gap. So, from basic web accessibility to masterclasses and advanced coding courses. Thursday next week will be Global Accessibility Awareness Day and the A11Y Collective is doing something incredibly cool with that day. They’re giving everyone the chance to enroll in their courses by letting you decide the price yourself. And for the record, their  courses are IAAP approved .

I mean, how cool is that? That is accessible on so many levels that I think we need a new word for that!  Go check it out !

I like solutions like these a lot. Automate all the things, I say.

  •  Pascal Birchler  shared one of the coolest things I’ve seen in years related to WordPress, but not a WordPress plugin, theme, or tool. It’s called  Plugin Table  and it’s probably not what you think. But you may want a copy on your wall (in celebration of WordPress turning 20).

Yes, cryptic, but I just want you to click that link 😂

🚀 Performance

I do enjoy how they do their best to share valuable information on the blog lately.

💡 Interesting Finds

A big step away from the ”it needs to look perfect first” approach in mockups, and think this is absolutely wonderful.

📖 What I am reading

  • No time to read anything substantial this week, but I am curious about what you read. Please let me know what the last essay, book or article was that captured you by replying!

🎁 Bonus

  • Show me a 10ft paywall, I’ll show you a 12ft ladder. This interesting tool called  prepends to a URL of any paywalled page, and they’ll try their best to remove the paywall and get you access to the article.

That’s it for this week’s edition of Inside WordPress. Thanks for reading!
